Academic Affairs Initiatives
Mississippi University for Women's Office of Academic Affairs is engaged in initiatives that improve student success, provide professional development support for faculty, and track appropriate and effective quality enhancement measures. This web page links to several initiatives undertaken by Academic Affairs in support of our institutional mission and our commitment to continuous improvement.
Introduction to AA Initiatives:
The index on the right side of the website will launch you to resources and information on the following Academic Affairs initiatives:
Academic Master Plan: In May 2006 MUW developed an Academic Master Plan to articulate the goals of Academic Affairs and track results. The original plan and the 2009 update to the plan are posted here.
Student Learning Outcomes Assessment: This site provides the conceptual framework for assessing student learning and how we utilize assessment as a tool for program planning and improvement. MUW's assessment plans, workshop information and assessment resources, and the Assessment Bulletin are posted on this site to help academic programs, administrators, and faculty to plan, implement, and respond to assessment results.
Faculty Development Initiatives: Academic Affairs provides faculty opportunities for continuous development in areas relevant to their roles, including: integrating technology into the classroom, improving student engagement, assessing student learning, serving on faculty search committees, classroom safety, and other topics that create and support robust environments for teaching, learning and discovery.
Additionally, Academic Affairs provides a series of seminars to orient new faculty to the university community, leadership enhancement workshops, and opportunities for faculty to participate in learning communities through "Teaching Circles." Links to these initiatives may be accessed from this website.
Curriculum Review and Development: MUW is committed to providing students with a thoughtful, relevant, and carefully sequenced curriculum that enhances the transference of knowledge between disciplines, encourages discovery, and reinforces our liberal arts mission. Academic Affairs supports faculty efforts to revise curriculum, propose new programs, and review existing programs. In addition MUW has recently revised its General Education curriculum.
Special Task Forces on Academic Issues: When issues of importance to Academic Affairs need further exploration, faculty may be invited to join a Special Topics Task Force. The recommendations of these task forces are posted on this page. Currently, Task Force reports are available on the topics of Academic Honesty, Internationalization of the Campus, and Retention.
