MUW Scholarships for Freshmen
MUW offers a generous scholarship program for students. You have the opportunity to join us for Scholars’ Day on March 5, 2010. MUW provides the opportunity, during Scholars' Day, to compete for four of our most prestigious scholarships available, such as the Centennial, Honors, University, and Reneau scholarships.
Scholars Day
To apply for the Centennial, Honors, University, and Reneau scholarships, students must be admitted to the university and should submit the following to the Office of Admissions:

Centennial
The Centennial scholarship is designed to allow superior students, entering college for the first time, to participate in intellectual endeavors without concern for cost. Centennial scholarships cover general tuition, out-of-state tuition (if applicable), room/board, and a small book stipend. These renewable scholarships range from $36,196 to $59,360 over a four year period. This scholarship also includes a one time award of $5,000 to be used toward a study abroad program sponsored by the Ina E. Gordy Honors College. To be considered for these scholarships, students must meet both of the following criteria and attend Scholars’ Day:
Minimum ACT composite score of 24 or SAT score of 1090
Minimum 3.0 college prep curriculum grade point average
Students who receive the Centennial will be required to participate fully in the Residential Honors Program of the Ina E. Gordy Honors College. The Residential Honors Program is an innovative living-learning experience for MUW’s most illustrious scholarship holders.
Honors Award
Honors Award is our second most prestigious awards and the average amount is $25,483 over a four year period. This scholarship also includes a one time award of $2,500 to be used toward a study abroad program sponsored by the Ina E. Gordy Honors College. To be considered for these awards, students must meet both of the following criteria and attend Scholars’ Day:
Minimum ACT composite score of 24 or SAT score of 1090
Minimum 3.0 college prep curriculum grade point average

University
The average amount of this award is $16,000 over a four year period. To be considered for this scholarship, students must meet both of the following requirements and attend Scholars’ Day:

Reneau
The average amount of this award is $12,600 over a four year period. To be considered for this scholarship, students must meet both of the following requirements and attend Scholars’ Day:
Minimum ACT composite score of 24 or SAT score of 1090
Minimum 3.0 college prep curriculum grade point average
Other Available Scholarships
In addition to the scholarships offered on Scholars’ Day, MUW offers many other scholarships to prospective students. AlumniResidents of Mississippi whose parents graduated from MUW are eligible to apply for this renewable scholarship in the amount of $1,600 over a four year period. Students must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline of April 1.
Alumni Out-of-State
Out-of-state students whose parents graduated from MUW are eligible to apply for these renewable scholarships which cover non-resident fees. Students must submit scholarship application by priority deadline of April 1.Foundation
Alumni and friends have generously contributed to a number of merit scholarships that are available to commendable students. Students must show academic promise, leadership abilities, potential in a specific area of study, and exemplary qualities to be eligible to be considered for these awards. Students must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline of April 1.Hearin
The Robert M. Hearin Leadership scholarships, up to the amount of $10,000 over a four year period, are based on demonstrated school and /or community leadership. Awards may be renewable based on the recipients’ participation in MUW’s Hearin Leadership Program and academic performance at MUW. Applicants must meet MUW’s admission criteria and have earned 2.5 or better on their high school core grade point average. Entering freshmen who wish to apply must attend the Hearin Leadership conference on January 29-31, 2010 and interview for the scholarship.Performance
Students who excel in performing arts are able to receive scholarships that are available from the departments of Art and Design and Music and Theatre. Those interested should contact the department at 662-329-7106.Presidential
These scholarships range from $6,000 to $7,000 over a four year period. Students who are selected as National Merit Scholarship Program semifinalists, finalists, and achievement finalists are eligible to apply for these awards.Regional
Out-of-state students that meet the following criteria may apply for this scholarship which covers out-of-state tuition:
Minimum ACT composite score of 21 or SAT score of 980
Minimum 3.0 college prep curriculum grade point average
Students must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline of April 1.
Valedictorian/Salutatorian
MUW awards these one year scholarships to first-time college students who were valedictorians or salutatorians of their high school class. The award for salutatorian is $400 and the award for valedictorian is $500. These awards are one time awards over a one year period. Students must submit a scholarship application by priority deadline of April 1.W Award of Excellence
Students who have a minimum ACT composite score of 21 or SAT score of 980 and a 3.00 college prep curriculum grade point average are eligible to apply for this scholarship. The amounts of the award vary, but range $2,000-$10,000 over a four year period.

Most scholarships and awards are for a period of one academic year (nine months). However, some at MUW can be renewed for three additional academic year, or graduation, whichever occurs first. All scholarship recipients must maintain continuous fulltime enrollment in at least 24 hours per academic year at MUW and maintain a 3.0 or higher MUW cumulative grade point average each semester. Students may receive more than one type of scholarship to attend MUW. However, total MUW award package, including state, federal, institutional, and private funds may not exceed total cost of attendance. Scholarship awards will be adjusted should the total amount exceed this cost.
The total amount of institutional scholarships awarded by the university may not exceed the total cost of tuition, room, board and a book stipend.
