Art History

Our art history courses are designed to increase students’ critical thinking skills and helps them to understand a culture’s history and values through its art and architecture. The art history curriculum is part of the art core, and is also offered as a minor. The study of art history has also been proven to increase observation skills in a wide range of professions, including medicine, criminology, and certainly the visual arts.  Art history classes complement our studio courses by reinforcing concepts of design, art theory and conceptual art. Students also learn where they themselves fit into the history of their chosen visual art discipline.  We offer a number of art history courses at MUW, each fulfilling the requirements for the art major, the art history minor, or for the general education curriculum.
