Activities planned at MUW for HIV/AIDS Awareness Week

Hydeia BroadbentCOLUMBUS, Miss. -- The Office of Student Life and Young Black Leadership Association at Mississippi University for Women will host a series of events Nov.12-15 in an effort to recognize November as HIV/AIDS Awareness Month.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Week at MUW will include educational activities that will allow students to gain more knowledge about the growing epidemic.

The highlight of the week will be guest speaker Hydeia Broadbent, international HIV/AIDS activist.

Broadbent was diagnosed as HIV-positive with advancement to AIDS at the age of 3. Now, at age 27, she spends time spreading the message of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention by promoting abstinence, safe sex practices and the initiative "Knowing Your HIV/AIDS Status."

Her presentation, "Unmasking HIV/AIDS," will be held Wednesday, Nov.14 at 7 p.m., in Nissan Auditorium in Parkinson Hall.
