Greeting

Welcome to the Mississippi University for Women (and Smart Men, too)
Graduate Nursing Web-page!

Dear Potential Applicant:
As a potential student I know that you have many questions concerning obtaining a Master’s Degree in Nursing. I hope the information provided here will be helpful in your decision about attending MUW. If you want to become a Family Nurse Practitioner you would be joining a cadre of nurse practitioner professionals. Many of the nurse practitioners in Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana, graduated from the “W”. MUW has had a nurse practitioner program since 1974, the first in Mississippi, graduating over 500 advanced practice nurses. Our pass rate on national certification the last 3 years has been a notable 100%.
The Graduate Nursing Program takes one calendar year to complete. It is a full time endeavor that is very concentrated. The faculty consists of all nurse practitioners who remain current by practicing one day a week. They all have varied backgrounds ranging from neonatal (NNP), pediatrics (PNP), family (FNP), and adult (ANP).
Basic information you need to make your decision:
  • August to August – one year to complete your degree
  • Clinical placement near or in your home town
  • Excellent national board certification rate
  • Accredited by Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) (consistently nationally and state accredited for entire history)
  • Usually one day of classes on Mondays (there are a few exceptions)
  • Internet access to faculty and cordless access in classroom
  • Comfortable surroundings in state of the art classrooms
  • Break room, lounge facilities for students
Faculty information:
  • Established office hours for all faculty
  • E-mail access to faculty with 24-48 hour return (except weekends) for answers
  • All faculty are nationally certified in specialties
  • All students will have a faculty advisor who can help guide them for entire year
