HAVING THE BEST OF IT ALL: AN ACCREDITED BUSINESS DEGREE WITH A STRONG LIBERAL ARTS CURRICULUM
The College of Business at Mississippi University for Women is dedicated to helping our students realize their goals of becoming successful professionals. At MUW, our nationally accredited business program is combined with a strong liberal arts curriculum to ensure that our graduates are knowledgeable and competitive in business and also are able to reason critically, express themselves clearly, and respond positively to their rapidly-changing environment.
For more than 100 years, MUW has provided outstanding educational opportunities. In the College of Business that excellence begins with all programs being accredited by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs. This accreditation ensures that MUW is providing an exceptional level of quality in its business programs, faculty, and facilities.
Programs in accounting, management, marketing, management information systems, and general business are available with classes offered during the day, evening, and on-line to help meet student scheduling needs—whether students are full time or part time. Our small classes provide a personalized learning experience directed by dedicated faculty who love to teach. Three of our business faculty have been honored for their outstanding teaching as MUW Faculty Member of the Year, one as Mississippi’s Outstanding Business Educator, and another as National Outstanding Educator of the Year for Business Information Systems. To the classroom our business faculty bring strong academic credentials, professional certifications like CPA, and real world experiences to enhance their teaching effectiveness. In addition, our faculty are involved in scholarship and research efforts, are officers in professional organizations, and are consultants for business, industry, and higher education. They also invest themselves into our local region by providing invaluable community service.
Students are excelling under the guidance of this dedicated faculty as evidenced by our students earning national recognition through Phi Beta Lambda and Students in Free Enterprise. A total of $45,000 in prize money as been won by our students for their portfolio performance in the TVA Investment Challenge, a stock market exercise where the students determine investment strategies with real assets. MUW business majors compete against 19 larger universities that have finance majors and graduate business programs; MUW does not.
Our students intern at such organizations as Tronox, Weyerhaeuser, Saks, IRS, United Way, and Wal-Mart. In addition, several of our recent accounting graduates have been hired by PricewaterhouseCoopers, an international provider of audit and advisory services to over 70 percent of the Fortune Global 500.
Come and see for yourself the difference MUW can make. We would love for you to visit the College of Business in Reneau Hall on our beautiful, historic campus to see what opportunities await.
