REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION

A. Admission to the nursing major is competitive and occurs at the summer semester of the junior year. Admission to the generic baccalaureate nursing major is competitive. Applications are mailed out in the fall semester. Admission of applicants for the summer term will be determined in January of that year.

(1) All students must meet the admission requirements of the university.
(2) Students admitted to the BSN Program must have:
(a) a composite ACT of 21 enhanced (18 if taken prior to October 1, 1989),and an
overall and/or MUW grade point average of 2.0, and completion of all
prerequisite courses with no less than "C".

OR
(b) If students do not have a composite score of 21 enhanced (18 if taken
prior to October 1, 1989), and an overall grade point average of 3.0
and completion of all prerequisite courses with no less than "C".

(3) Generic students must successfully complete all nursing prerequisites designated
for the first four semesters of the curriculum.
(4) Physical and biological science courses may only be repeated once. After the
second attempt to make a "C" or better he student is ineligible for admission to the program.
There is a six-year limit on science courses for the Generic option.
(5) Students must complete an application for summer placement during late Fall
semester of the sophmore year.

B. Decisions regarding admission to the junior year are based on the candidates ACT and overall grade point average with special attention given to grades achieved in the natural, behavioral, and social science courses, as well as college algebra. Decisions regarding admission to the Advanced Placement option are based on the candidate's ACT score and cumulative quality point average.

ADMISSION DATES-

Decisions regarding admission to the generic nursing major are made during the month of January. In order to be considered for admission at this time, candidates must have submitted BSN application, official transcripts verifying completion of all prerequisites if taken at another university and an official copy of their ACT score. Please check with the Baccalaureate program secretary (601-329-7301)for further information and dates. Admission to the Advanced Placement option occurs at the beginning of Fall and Summer semesters.
