Drawing and Painting
Drawing and Painting is an area of emphasis in the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art (BFA).
The drawing and painting curriculum provides students with an understanding of the evolution of representation, illusion and meaning through a range of media including graphite, charcol, watercolor, acrylics and oil paint. Our classes challenge students to think conceptually, and consider drawing and painting as something beyond direct observational representation. We provide students with a background in non-objective drawing, perspective, contour as well as different media and rendering techniques.
All of the drawing and painting courses include independent projects, to give students experience in developing unique, personally driven works of art. Students are exposed to a functional knowledge of the history of painting and drawing though the completion of master studies and reading assignments.
