Mallory Trochesset
Class of 2006

In today’s competitive media culture, businesses are looking for educated and versatile employees with drive and determination,” says Mallory Trochesset,
2006 graduate of the Department of Communication at Mississippi University for Women. After completing the program, Trochesset knew that she was prepared to take on any position because of the skills
and experiences she gained during her years at MUW.

The diverse program affords students such skills ranging from public relations and broadcasting, to print journalism and communication theory. “Since interning, I’ve learned that you will utilize all of these skills
in any single position you hold, and have an advantage over those students who came from programs focused on one area of communication,” said Trochesset.

Such internships include her summer as Executive Administrative Intern for Country Music Television in Nashville, TN, and a position with WLOX News in Biloxi, MS. “My internships were some of the single most valuable experiences that I had while at MUW,” she says, “and I would recommend doing multiple internships to any communication student because they truly teach students the business and solidify their passion for the field as well as build a great resume for entering the workforce.”

After graduating from MUW, Trochesset moved to Athens, GA, where she will begin her work on a Master’s degree in the College of Student Affairs Administration at the University of Georgia. She says that although not directly related to the field of communication, Student Affairs Administration incorporates some of the things she loved most about the field which was public speaking, interpersonal relationships, and public relations.

“As the graduate assistant for the Center for Leadership and Service, I will advise a group of 20 undergraduate students on the Leadership Resource Team who will act as a consultant to campus organizations by providing programs on leadership development. I will be responsible for assisting these students with their presentation skills, creating a series of one-page information sheets on leadership topics, and hosting a one-day collegiate leadership conference for the state of Georgia among many other tasks.”

And Trochesset adds some advice for those thinking about enrolling in the Department of Communication at Mississippi University for Women: “If you’re looking for a strong program where you actually enjoy going to class while learning the skills necessary to make you more marketable and appealing to employers, then register for classes now, and pay attention to those exciting internship opportunities available right around the corner!”
