MUW hosts free community health fair

MUW Health FairCOLUMBUS, Miss. – The Department of Health and Kinesiology at Mississippi University for Women and the City of Columbus have partnered to present a free community health fair Wednesday, Feb. 13 from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the Pohl Gymnasium.

MUW International Series to focus on Haiti

HaitiCOLUMBUS, Miss. -- When Sister Clarice Carroll retired as professor of obstetrics-gynecology at the University of Mississippi Medical Center in 2010, she headed to Haiti, arriving just weeks after the earthquake that devastated the country to begin her work as a nurse midwife in Gros-Morne, a city north of Port-au-Prince where many earthquake victims migrated.

dr-hank-boundsIf you were to ask a classroom of first grade students what career path they plan to choose, you will likely receive answers such as “fireman” or “astronaut,” probably based on the excitement of riding on a fire truck or a spaceship, or “teacher,” based on the example set each day by their own teacher. However, as these students grow and mature, discover and develop their own talent and aptitude, and consider many other factors, including job availability and salary, these career aspirations often change.
