This fall, Mississippi University for Women’s Office of Continuing Education will offer 29 courses as part of its community Life Enrichment Program. Mississippi University for Women recently received a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Education to support its Science Enrichment Program. The Science and Mathematics on the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway grant will provide funding over a two-year period for continuing science and mathematics education opportunities for students in kindergarten through 12th grade, teachers and the general public in Northeast Mississippi. Mississippi University for Women officials are reporting increased activity on campus with the opening of the semester. According to Dr. Hal Jenkins, interim provost and vice president for academic affairs, they have added new sections in nursing, communication, music and philosophy. “We raised the class size on most general education courses such as art and music appreciation, history, literature surveys, speech, mathematics and philosophy as well as some of the lower division courses in several majors. We have hired additional adjunct faculty to teach the added sections,” he said. Read the full story.

Students in the political science program at Mississippi University for Women interned locally, regionally and nationally this summer. Dr. Brian Anderson, professor of political science, described this as the largest and most widely active group of political science interns ever. “Internships in political science are essential because there's only so much a professor can tell/show students in a classroom about the use of power in politics, the importance of administrative process, etc. They have to get out in the environment of government/politics and experience it firsthand,” Anderson said.
