Recent Mississippi University for Women graduate Joy Richardson of Jackson is scheduled to start her new job as a registered nurse at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on Aug. 2. Richardson was introduced to the Mayo Clinic while visiting a nursing convention in Biloxi in 2008. She applied for their 10-week summer internship program and was accepted as one of the 140 nursing students accepted nationwide. Read the full story.

Faculty and staff at Mississippi University for Women will lend a helping hand to students moving into the residence halls on Sunday, Aug. 15 starting at noon. The public also is invited to participate. “The department of community living has set aside this time for our students to come to campus to move into their new home. There will be numerous faculty, staff and students to assist families during the day,” said Sirena Parker, director of community living. Read the full story.

Times are always changing, and with the rapid growth of social media, so are the ways high school seniors are preparing for their first year of college. With a helpful suggestion from incoming freshman, Carly Bean, the Office of Admissions has decided to start the “MUW Class of 2014” Facebook page. Bean of West Point, recently contacted Amanda Shelton in the Office of Admissions about starting a Facebook page after hearing from her friend, who is also going to college in the fall, that a page had been started at her school.
